Continuing CCAIR work on Abaiang islets

Women's group establishment meeting in Nuotaea islet, Abaiang

The ChildFund Kiribati team had a successful and productive visit to Ribono and Nuotaea Islets in Abaiang. This trip marked a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to improve access to clean water and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the community.

Women and youth empowerment meetings conducted by CFK staffs in Nuotaea islet, Abaiang.

During the visit, CFK staff finalized the solar water distillation sites with village members, an essential step in ensuring that the community has reliable access to clean drinking water. User groups and committees were established to help manage these sites effectively. One of the highlights of the trip was connecting with the local community to set up islet youth and women’s groups. These groups will play a crucial role in supporting the project and fostering a sense of ownership among community members.

“I am thrilled and looking forward to what this project will offer our community, particularly the gardening program. While I've tried gardening before, my plants haven't survived, so I’m excited to receive proper training this time,” says one mother from Nuotaea islet.

The team are so incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and support received from the amazing communities of Ribono and Nuotaea Islet as well as the Green Living and Island Agricultural staff members who provided technical assistance to the CFK team in this two-week visit.

The CFK team is excited to return soon to Abaiang to continue supporting these communities and assisting with the project activities already initiated. CFK is also looking forward to launching new home gardening initiatives, which will empower community members to grow their own healthy food and promote food security.

Stay tuned for updates as CFK continues its journey with the Ribono and Nuotaea Islet communities, working together to create sustainable solutions for the community.
