IMPACT Baseline Survey Underway in Betio, Abaiang & Makin Island

ChildFund Kiribati has launched its IMPACT Baseline Survey to better understand the needs, priorities, and experiences of children, young people, families, and communities across Kiribati.

The survey began in Betio, where the ChildFund Kiribati team engaged with households, young people aged 18–30, and children. The team also conducted focus group discussions with young people, men, women, and people with disabilities at Tanrakean Te Uanou Maneaba in Betio Parish.

To support the survey, five enumerators joined the team to help collect information and ensure the activity could be completed efficiently.

The baseline survey looks at important areas of community wellbeing, including child safety, participation in decision-making, livelihoods, future opportunities, access to water and food, and other community needs. The information collected will help ChildFund Kiribati design and strengthen its programmes over the next five years, while also providing a baseline to measure progress and impact over time.

Following the completion of the Betio survey, the team travelled to the outer islands to continue the assessment. The survey was conducted in Kiebu Islet in Makin and Ribono and Nuotaea Islets in Abaiang, reaching households, children, and young people in these communities.

The team worked closely with island councils, community leaders, church communities, families, young people, and other community members to support the successful implementation of the survey.
