36 Betio youth undertaking KIT bridging program

Congratulations to the new bridging recruits of young Betio men and women! A total of 36 youth commenced their one-year journey on Monday!

It was great to have everyone at the KIT mwaneaba including KIT OIC, Ms Bannau and Deputy Directors, Ms Tareere and Mr Mikaere, KIT bridging teachers and ChildFund staff. We came together to welcome the new students with words of wisdom and encouragement.

In her opening remarks the OIC said to the new students that they need to come every day. They should not dwell on the past about their lack of achievement at school but make a fresh start. They should envisage how to overcome their challenges. In this way they will be benefit well from the program and potentially be ready to get into mainstream courses. The deputy director then expanded more, saying that there were lots of bridging graduates who are now in courses such as the Construction Cert II, Electrical Cert II, Community Services Cert II, English Cert I and II, as a result of joining the bridging program. ChildFund was then invited to give a speech to all bridging students

There were motivational speakers, former bridging students, now undertaking KIT mainstream courses. “I was among the second bridging male cohort back in 2018 that completed this course, and gradually moved into the Elementary Certificate 1 & 2, and finally passed the intake into the Construction Certificate II, last year. We are like small birds living in the nest, waiting for the mother bird to come and feed us”, said one of the former bridging students.

Let’s all give our full support to our young Betio youth and to thank KIT for their tireless work for this very important program. From its beginning back in 2017, ChildFund has been a proud partner of KIT, in reaching out to disengaged youth.
