Sharing the love with parenting course

Tabera is 39 and a loving mother of three sons. She was one of the many active participants during ChildFund’s household mini workshop, particularly on positive parenting, held last year.

It was so exciting to learn during our recent interview with her, that she can still recall what she learnt. This includes the importance of expressing love to children, talking, and listening to know how to best provide support to them, consistently setting household rules, and creating routines including time for children to play and when to take a nap.

“The mini workshop messaging and information provided emphasize my role as a mother and my husband as a father, giving us guidance and confidence in our way of parenting and nurturing them the right way,” says Tabera.

Tabera added that she had become a permissive mother to her son who is 15 years old, when he was a child. “When my son was a child back then, it was hard for me to scold him for little mistakes he did, thinking that I’m the best mother to him. I provided everything I could to accommodate all what he wants without considering that I was taken for granted.”

The mini workshop was so beneficial because they are using this way of positive parenting to their two younger sons who are six and eight years old. Both have, and will continually, show their love as parents by hugging, talking, listening, and being consistent with their parenting and house rules.

“Being a parent is very challenging, so being knowledgeable through learning tips such as those we learned at the mini workshop is essential. Firstly, be a good parent and secondly apply what it takes to become a good parent, and to let God be your guidance. By doing this, it will lessen stress escalation in bringing up your children,” advises Tabera.
